The Birth
7:30am - Chrystal starts feeling contractions. These continue throughout the day but not regularly and not very strong. At this time we were thinking this is just Braxton Hicks.
5:30 pm - Eric is getting ready to head out the door to go to class. Chrystal's contractions are now starting to get stronger, but aren't that regular 6-8 min varying. Eric & Chrystal decide we better go to the hospital just to have a look. We grab our bags thinking this is a good practice run.
6:00pm - Eric & Chrystal are at the hospital in a labor room (standard practice). We're still thinking this isn't the time. Chrystal is examined and they say she has changed and it a 1cm. We still think it isn't the time since this too can happen so early. After an hour or so Chrystal gets a warm sensation. I get the nurse and her water has broken. This was a bit of a surprise since this is normally broken or breaks at a different location than the hospital. At this point the nurse informs us we're not leaving without having a baby. We began to make calls telling family not to come yet since this could be a long process. Most didn't listen. Chrystal's contractions really get stronger a more regular after her water broke. After a few hours Chrystal has finally made it to almost 4cm. Due to the strength of the contractions the Dr let he know she could get an epidural at any time. The epidural came pretty quickly and was in place in no time. Chrystal was already relieved. The nurse advised us to get some rest since it could still take a while. Another short time passed and the nurse was examining again. She let us know Chrystal was now a 10 and it's time to get started. We were both pretty shocked.
1:58am - Baby Leah was finally born. Thankfully everything went rather well and baby & mom are doing great.
